Integrated Review for Two Year Olds

If your child’s health visitor has concerns with your child’s two year check then a second one can be carried out as an integrated review a few months later.

If you have any concerns or would like us to arrange an integrate review then please send me an e-mail to info@orangutanschildcare.com or emma@orangutanschildcare.com so we can register this concern or interest.

Integrated Review for Two Year Olds

The Integrated Review for Two Years Olds is a joint initiative between The Department for Health and The Department for Education. From September 2015, local areas will be expected to integrate health and education child development reviews that are carried out and shared with parents when children are two years of age.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Progress Check at age two (delivered by early years practitioners in a child’s early years setting) will be brought together with the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 2-2½ year old health and development review (delivered by health visiting teams), where possible, in an Integrated Review.

Combining the two review processes offers the potential to provide better and earlier intervention to support children’s future outcomes. Age two is a key point in development where problems such as speech delay or behavioral issues may begin to emerge. Integrating health and education reviews at this age can help identify problems and can also reduce the risk of duplication and confusion in making referrals for those children who need more support.

Where the health visitor, early years setting or the parent identifies a child not at typical development, through the assessment or the EYFS Two Year Check then an Integrated Review will be arranged. This will take the form of a face to face meeting with the Health Visitor, Early Years key worker and parent.

Integrated Reviews may be triggered at the following points:

  • the setting informs health they have a concern at around  22 months (i.e. prior to the 24month health check)
  • health raise a concern at the 24month check and the child is attending a setting
  • health raise a concern at the 24month check and they are aware the child is planning to start a setting in the near future
  • the setting raise a concern when they complete the two year EYFS check
  • the parent raises a concern and they are attending or due to attend a setting
