TOOTH BRUSHING

Orangutans understands the importance of brushing teeth at an early age.  From 1st September 2015 a tooth brushing programme will be introduced for all babies, toddlers and preschool children.  The programme will be organised in a safe and effective way.

Staff will be given a detailed training programme and checks will be carried out to ensure the national standards of best practice are being carried out.

Correct use of the appropriate age fluoride toothpaste has been proven to make the teeth more resistant to acid attacks and therefore works to reduce dental decay.

Our policy and procedure

  • The children will always supervised when brushing
  • Each child will have their own labelled toothbrush
  • Toothbrushes will be stored in a Brush Bus or Brush rack covered with a lid
  • Toothbrushes are replaced at least once a term or earlier, if needed
  • Children will have the toothpaste put onto a dry brush, then brush for about two minutes where possible and age appropriate
  • No rinsing takes place, children will be encouraged to wipe any excess paste onto a tissue
  • Children will be encourage to ‘SPIT DON’T RINSE’.  This is the most effective way to use fluoride toothpaste. This is a good message for adults too!Tooth brushing at nursery will supplement the home regime
  • Each toothbrush is rinsed thoroughly before being stored away for next time
